The Role:
Bloomberg is seeking a seasoned Latin American Economist to
join a global team of analysts to cover economic data releases
and events as well as macroeconomic trends. The successful
candidate will be able to provide quick and insightful analysis
on key economic events to a sophisticated financial audience.
We are looking for someone who can leverage experience working
for a financial firm, especially as a desk economist, to
provide crisp analysis of data with a focus on Latin America,
especially Brazil. The successful candidate should be able to
generate daily content about economic, business, and financial
markets, as well as draw innovative interpretations from data
or trends. Our goal is to deliver pithy, insightful analysis
for Bloomberg’s client base.
The role could be based in either Sao Paulo, Mexico City or New
York City.
Qualifications:
Bloomberg economists should:
– 5+ years of relevant experience in economic analysis.
– Have a graduate degree or equivalent in economics,
international economics, MBA or related field is preferred.
– Make strong points while eschewing ideological or political
points of view.
– Have the ability to rapidly interpret and communicate the
impact of economic events and data on global financial
markets.
– Make the most of proprietary data from the Bloomberg terminal
as well as from other sources.
– Demonstrate a knack for verbal, visual, and written
communication enabling them to bring clarity to Bloomberg’s
broad audience.
– An ability to work as part of a global team is critical to
the success of this position.
– Be comfortable speaking on TV and in front of large audiences
in English (Spanish and/or Portuguese would be a plus.)
– Have a strong background in macroeconomics, foreign exchange,
commodities, global equities, rates, credit or emerging
markets.
– Exhibit a high level ability to use Excel, or any other
statistical package, to crunch data and display data, including
the ability to create sophisticated charts and graphs from the
data.
