RN Labor and Delivery - Full-Time - Nights - Terre Haute Regional Hospital - Terre Haute, IN


Position summary: This position is designed to plan, assess, implement, and evaluate the ongoing delivery of care to assigned patients. Also performs nursing care in a holistic manner. Assists the management/charge nurse with responsibilities as needed.

Position responsibilities:

  • Places the mother on the fetal monitor and correctly interpret the strip

  • Responds appropriately to non-reassuring fetal monitor tracings

  • Performs vaginal exams and monitors labor activity accurately

  • Notifies physician promptly of nonreassuring assessments

  • Titrates pitocin and monitors patient for adverse reactions

  • Performs and interprets stress and non-stress tests

  • Completes OB/Peds Orientation Checklist

  • Completes Basic Electronic Fetal Monitoring Education and passes exam with score of 85% or better

Completes the following competencies: External Fetal Monitoring, Labor Specific, Sterile Vaginal Exam, Checking Reflexes, Oximeter Application.
· NRP/ACLS and AWHONN certification achieved within first year of employment; certification maintained throughout employment
· Circulates for C-Sections
· Recovers C-Sections
· Assists anesthesiologists with epidural placement; recognizes and responds appropriately to epidural complications
Essential educational/licensure, skills and experience:

  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing with current or pending licensure by the Indiana State Board of Nursing as a Registered Professional Nurse.

  • Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP, and AWHONN fetal monitoring certification must be maintained throughout employment with Terre Haute Regional Hospital

  • Have a basic knowledge of JCAHO, CMS and ISBH standards, rules and regulations.

  • Have a basic knowledge of “performance improvements” concepts and unit activities.
