Test Engineer
Job Description
Support the design and development of new products and product improvements.
1. Perform testing on prototype and production products
Update and maintain test request schedule and timing with Microsoft Project software
Create and document test processes for development products
Support documentation of new or revised in-process tests
Is co-responsible for the compliance to the Customer Engineering Specification (DVP&R planning, realization & analysis)
Generate test reports and appropriate documentation for test requests
Support nonstandard testing for production quality issues
2. Operate and program sophisticated test machines
Modify/create programs for test equipment.
Modify mechanical setups of durability machines
Set up and operate the high-speed camera
Work with Process Engineering to modify/create PLC programs for durability machines based on Customer Engineering Specification
3. Define and design test fixture / test set-up to support product development activities
Develop innovative designs and set-ups for mechanical tests to meet the product technical requirements and be in compliance with the Customer Engineering Specifications
Identify test fixture and tooling needs and support creation of design concepts
Work with Process Engineering department to finalize design of test fixtures and tools
Work with outside machine shops to quote, award, and build fixtures and tooling
Maintain the Bill Of Materials and change-over tool list
Support our testing lab expansion with concept/design of new equipment, tools & fixtures, and test lab expansion layout
4. Build / Modify / Retrofit prototype steering column products
Generate Work Instruction for prototype assembly set-up and document test procedure for prototype builds
Create and perform basic assembly operation process on tensile/compression machine.
Perform basic metal machining processes including drilling, milling, turning, cutting, and welding at our machine shop, or get quote and organize parts from local machine shops
5. Maintain safe and orderly work environment
Create and maintain test fixture and tooling inventory by part family/project
Maintain clean, organized, safe work environment per 5S and PPLS standards to promote efficiency
Maintain Job Safety Analysis documentation on current and future machines
Perform PM and minor repairs to test equipment
Specific Job Duties
Education and/or Experience:
BS Degree in Engineering, preferably in Mechanical Engineering or similar experience.
Working experience in a test lab and use of test application software
Experience in manufacturing processes such as assembly and machining technologies
Experience with MIG and / or TIG welding
Advanced knowledge and understanding of General Dimensioning and Tolerancing, including interpretation of drawings.
Computer and Technology Skills:
Microsoft Office Suites
Lotus Notes, LabView, KinRig, Diadem, Q-Das Statistical Software, MatLab, TestXpert, PLC programming knowledge is a plus.
