The position of Technical Manager (South Africa) is located at 3M South Africa, which is situated at Woodmead, a subsidiary responsible for the marketing and sales of a diversified range of products into Sub-Saharan Africa for the global corporation. To continue its growth in the region, the subsidiary has adopted a market focused strategy and is recruiting for this position to give effect to its business objectives. The Technical Manager (South Africa) will be responsible for but not limited to the following specific duties:

1. Connect customers to 3M products and solutions: ? Establish a process for driving high impact customer projects through local technical service ? Promote efficient application development (ePAD) & replication (GMPO) in the technical service community ? Ensure effective use of the Woodmead CTC as a business tool to build customer intimacy & drive growth

2. Drive growth through impactful new product introductions: ? Prioritize & resource (with CBLs) the Local and Global Top 10 new product initiatives by Big B ? Lead effective NPI execution through the use of the local eNPI process & gate review discipline ? Establish the Global New Products Portal (aka. GADB) as the country control plan for new product growth

3. Build a robust, market driven, new product pipeline: ? Create a dynamic hoppering process for capturing local new product needs based on local VOM ? Address portfolio gaps with global, imported product replication & localized new products (in / outsourced) ? Build a new product pipeline which meets the total growth objective

4. Leadership of the technical organization in South Africa ? Ensure alignment of the technical resources in S. Africa (& Regional) with the top growth opportunities ? Build a professional, technical service organization which is networked globally ? Lead the MTR/EC&DP process for technical service & implement individual development plans

Qualifications

1. Education: ? Degree in Science or Applied Science, industrial experience 2. Experience: ? 7+ years in a technical function. ? Cross cultural & cross functional leadership experience. ? Customer exposure and business process experience. ? Direct people management experience. 3. Knowledge: ? Business acumen. ? Understanding of 3M businesses and target markets (desirable but not essential). ? In depth knowledge of selected 3M relevant technologies (desirable but not essential). ? Management of technical and business priorities. ? Familiarity with six sigma methodologies - DMAIC & DFSS (desirable but not essential). 4. Language: ? Fluent in English. 5. Key Capabilities: ? People management skills. ? Drive and enthusiasm. ? Good customer and inter-personal contact. ? Good communication skills (written and oral). ? Project management abilities. ? Analytical skills and problem solving. ? Well-developed IT skills.
