Part-time Detention Officer - Vigo County, IN - Terre Haute, IN


This position is responsible for ensuring security at the Juvenile Center by following all policies and procedures set forth by the leadership of the Detention Center.

Examples of Duties:
Monitor juveniles detained at the center during all daily activities.
Enforce house rules for youth detained at the center.
Receive and process new residents to the detention center. This entails gathering and documenting juvenile’s personal information, notifying parent/guardian, logging personal property, searching, showering, delousing, and basic orientation.
Escort juveniles to court as needed.
Assist in the transportation of residents to and from various appointments when required.
Administer medications if necessary.
Complete appropriate paperwork.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of detention center by completing, shift assignments.
Follow all procedures and policies.
Intervene in situations requiring prompt attention (e.g. disputes between residents, illness).
Complete tasks as assigned by shift supervisor or director.


Typical Qualifications:
Must be at least 21 years of age.
Must have high school diploma or its equivalent.
Must possess valid driver’s license.
CPR and First Aid certification is required.
Must be able to work Nights, Weekends, and Holidays .


Supplemental Information:
Must possess the ability to communicate effectively.
Criminal history check required.
May be subject to drug screening.
Must have the ability to apply and enforce group living guidelines.
Must have the ability to handle threatening situations with a minimal amount of physical force.
Must be able to work effectively in stressful situations.
