Action Pest Control, a company with 60 years experience in Pest Control, is seeking a Dog Handler in the Indianapolis/Terre Haute/Washington, IN areas. The successful candidate will be providing pest control services and solutions while establishing and maintaining customer relationships, as well as conducting bed bug inspections and recommending pest
control prevention procedures to resolve customer concerns at an exemplary level. In addition to other duties, the position requires employing a certified canine to assist in pest/rodent control detection.
Job Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Perform canine detection demonstrations to educate customers and explain how the process works and as a result sell bed bug detection and other services.
- Conduct through bed bug inspection at customer locations.
- Responsible for caring for and transporting dog to and from work sites 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
- Weekly training of dog and handler to maintain K9 abilities is required for a minimum ½ hour each day, while maintaining proper documentation of training, daily work & health.
- Attend necessary courses to become dog handler and certified in the detection of bed bugs or other scents.
- Maintain necessary certification of both you and the canine.
- Ensure canine remains current on vaccination, licensing and training requirements.
- When not conducting inspections; perform janitorial, sales, administrative and/or other light maintenance duties.
- Must be able to communicate well with customers.
- Other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements:
- Walking up and down stairs, bending, light lifting, throwing a ball
- Daily driving to assigned jobs, which may include any of Action’s geographical territories.

- Care of dog
Canine Care Requirements:
- Fenced in yard may be required, depending on location of residence.
- Upkeep and maintenance of outdoor kennel and concrete area, in a secure location on the residence.
- Kennel and Concrete supplies are provided by Action to ensure proper care for the canine.
- In inclement weather, an inside kennel area must be available and provided.
- Current pets of handlers should have minimal interaction and contact with working dog, as not to deter from the dog’s training.
- Food, health, and training supplies are provided by Action for the working dog(s) only.
- If dog is not working, adult supervision approved by the handler and/or Dog Handler Supervisor is required, if it is other than the approved handler(s). Approved handler must be present at all times.
- In the event of an emergency with the dog, seek medical attention with the dog’s primary veterinarian first. Should the handler and dog be unable to visit the primary veterinarian, seek a referral from the veterinarian for the area, where the dog is located.
- Notify the Dog Handler Supervisor as soon as possible.
- If necessary, ensure the dog is able to exercise daily, when not working.
- Proper water and care must occur at least every 4 hours.
Other qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Experience with working canines and/or, training, preferred
- Prior sales experience
- Prior pest control experience, preferred
- Excellent communication (oral and written) skills
- Excellent time management skills
- Excellent organizational skills
- Computer skills
