Data Entry Clerk job - Union Hospital - Terre Haute, IN
• Receives in daily mail the insurance and personal checks from mail clerks.
• Prepares daily payments, gathering critical information before data entry.
• Prepares payments in batch form calculating total dollar amount.
• Establishes batch entry in billing system.
• Enters payments and adjustments into billing system posting to the invoice not the account balance, maintaining 48 hour or less turn around time from date received.
• Reconciles payment batch total from billing system to pre-posting batch total.
• Resolves posting errors until payment batch reconciles to pre-posting batch total.
• Processes zero payment EOBs.
• Highlights payment denials/rejections and distributes to appropriate insurance clerk for follow up activity.
• Highlights adjustments/write offs in excess of guidelines and distributes to appropriate insurance clerk for follow up activity.
• Prepares and stores payment batch according to current procedure.

TRAINING, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES NEEDED:
1. Basic keyboarding skills with typing speed of 45 wpm.
2. Calculator skills of 175 strokes per minute (will determine proficiency with calculator test).
3. Working rasp of standard written and verbal English, good spelling, and accomplished at basic business math.
4. Must meet and deal successfully with a wide variety of people.
5. Working knowledge of computer preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.
Employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
