Position: Ultrasound Technologist
Position summary: Performs ultrasound, radiographic, and special procedures at level not requiring supervision of technical detail. Performs a variety of technical procedures that will require independent judgment with ingenuity and initiative. Able to assists in specialty areas (ie. OR, Invasive.)

Position responsibilities:
- Capable of assuming full responsibility for one or more modalities in Ultrasound and/or radiology
- Performs diagnostic procedures applying prescribed methods of ultrasound technique Produces diagnostic images using Doppler, abdominal or pregnancy ultrasound
- Selects transducer and adjusts equipment controls according to organ to be examined, depth of field and other specifications of test
- Explains procedures to patients and addresses their concerns
- Keys test data and patient information into computer to maintain record of test results
- Assists physician with ultrasound guided biopsies and/or invasive procedures
- Maintains and calibrates equipment
- Monitors, records and communicates as appropriate utilizing computerized documentation systems
- Utilizes knowledge of age specific needs of patient in performance of duties and responsibilities
- Orients and mentors new staff members
- Provides a safe environment for administering contrast material
- Assists with transporting patients
- Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required
- Notifies appropriate person(s) regarding diagnostic equipment issues
- Attempts to resolve processing issues when possible or notifies appropriate person(s)
- Provides first aid when necessary, maintaining current CPR
- Attends all in service programs, unit meetings, hospital programs and may be responsible for training lessons
- In absence of Lead Coordinator may be designated as charge technologist
- Performs other duties as assigned to meet the needs of the department
- Attend Code of Conduct training course annually
- Demonstrate an understanding of and adherence to HCA’s Code of Conduct
- Demonstrates conduct that is reflective of THRH’s commitment to HCA’s Code of Conduct
- Understands and satisfies the needs of the patient population appropriate to the age of the patient served (adults, geriatric, adolescent, pediatric, and parents of neonates)
- Adheres to the Standards of Behavior for Terre Haute Regional Hospital as per the Customer Relations Policy
Qualifications
Essential educational/licensure, skills and experience:
- Graduate of an accredited program for Radiographers or Ultrasonographers
- Current RDMS or must be registry eligible and registered within one year of eligibility, or
- Registered by the American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT), with Ultrasound.
- Current state licensure or permit to practice medical imagining
- Current Certification in Basic Life Support
- Minimum two years working as an Imaging Tech
- Customer service abilities including effective listening skills
- Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast paced environment
- Ability to perform work that requires frequent standing, bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling, moving, lifting of patients and/or equipment up to 50 lbs

Valued but not required educational/licensure, skills and experience:
- At least three years experience as an Imaging Tech preferred
