Vigo County Community Corrections has an internal opening for a Detention Services Coordinator.
Examples of Duties:
Provides direct management over all staff involved in work release and home detention custody operations, which include but not limited to interviewing, hiring, approving leave requests, conducting performance reviews and participating in disciplinary proceedings.
Responsible for maintaining proper coverage for all shifts for vacations, sick days, personal days and or any absences.
Communicates and implements all changes or new information to the Supervisors and or detention staff.
Participates in the CAB hearing process as assigned.
Posts assignments and duties for all shifts, and detention staff and
follows up to ensure orders are carried out accurately.
Inventories supplies and inspects equipment
regularly. Notifies appropriate person (s) for replacements.
Tracks all necessary information which includes but not limited to Advisory Board and Department of Corrections.
Ensures that all new staff is properly trained, and all vaccinations documentation
is on file.
Typical Qualifications:
Minimum of a Baccalaureate Degree in criminal justice or equivalent combination of education and experience in court procedures, community corrections, and Department of Corrections.
Must be at least 21 years of age.
Ability to provide public access to or maintain confidentiality of department information/records according to state requirements.
Work with potentially dangerous, violent and or abusive participants.
Posse valid Indiana drivers license and demonstrate a safe driving record. Provide proof to supervisor annually and must notify supervisor of suspensions or restrictions.
Working knowledge and make practical application of Department policies and procedures, legal requirements, including agency Personnel Polices for employment, State Board of Accounts and the Department of Corrections policies.
The employee will be trained and instructed in the utilization of the Eight Principles of Effective Intervention as related to Evidence Based Practices. The employee will be required to demonstrate, have understanding of these skills and apply them in their daily duties.
Working knowledge of Standard English, grammar, spelling, punctuation and the ability to type with speed and accuracy.
Write clearly, informatively, edits work for spelling and or grammar errors, and able to read and interpret written information.
Add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measures using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Consistently be at work, be on time, and ensure work responsibilities are covered when absent.
As a result of the duties associated with this job, there is the potential of
becoming exposed to blood borne pathogens and must receive the three shot Hepatitis B vaccination, annual Tuberculosis and subsequent training. If the employee has previously received the three shot Hepatitis B vaccination, official documentation must be provided to the supervisor within two weeks of hire date identifying when and who administered vaccine. Employee may NOT decline any vaccinations that are listed above.
Must have the ability to adapt to change, apply those changes to his/her job immediately and effectively.
Operate standard office equipment such as telephone, calculator,
copier, fax machine, typewriter, computer, printer and etc.
Working knowledge of database software, spreadsheet software and word processing software, and all software and hardware related to
the detention operations to include all cameras, DVRs, and audio recording devices.
Effectively communicate orally and in writing with a variety of individuals such as co-workers, other county departments, attorneys, law enforcement personnel and the public.
Respect and sensitivity for cultural differences, and promote a harassment-free environment. Focus on solving conflicts, listen to others without interruption, keep emotions under control, remain open to others ideas, listens, responds, gets clarification to questions, participates in meetings, gives and welcomes feedback, displays passion and optimism. Effectively complete duties amidst frequent distractions and interruptions. Possess and utilize good interpersonal skills and at all times treating all persons with respect, work with integrity, ethics, uphold organizational values and professional courtesy.
Maintain a good working relationship with staff, other agencies staff, participants and their families.
Project a professional image appropriate for working in a professional office setting, including grooming and adhering to agency dress code at all times.
Carry out the instructions, guidelines and directives according to agency organizational chart in an accurate and timely manner. Work evenings, weekends and etc. when workload and/or deadlines required and is required to be on call and available as needed. Attend meetings/training including evenings, weekends and out of town (overnight when necessary). Ability to perform related duties as assigned.
Observe safety and security procedures. Determine appropriate action beyond guidelines and report potentially unsafe conditions to supervisor.
Obtain required certifications/training within time specified by department, including first responder/CPR, response to resistance,
verbal de-escalation, and disease control.
Testifies in Court when needed.
Ability to work on several tasks at the same time, often under time pressure, and complete assignments effectively amidst frequent distractions and interruptions.
Ability to competently serve the public with diplomacy and respect, including occasional encounters with irate/hostile person.
Ability to regularly work weekend and/or evening hours, occasionally work extended and/or irregular hours, and occasionally travel out of town for training, sometimes overnight.
He/she is responsible for the maintenance of order and supervision of offenders and supervises all Correctional Officers.
He/she is required to have working knowledge of the policies, procedures, and insures all supervising staff and participants follow
these policies and procedures.
Ability to work well with supervisors, subordinates, offenders, facility and department staff and on occasion, members of the public.
This position requires the employee to obtain and maintain a cellular phone and service plan as follows:
The employee may select a service from any vendor that is compatible with VCCC’S current service in order to meet the job requirements. Vigo County currently has a contract with Verizon Wireless and any County employee required to carry a cellular phone will receive the government discount which would be determined by Verizon Wireless.
Once cell phone service is activated employee must provide the cellular phone number to ALL required administration within five working days of being placed in the position.
If employee changes his/her cellular phone number the employee must contact necessary administration immediately with the new number.
The phone is owned by the employee and it may be used for personal and business use.
The employee may obtain a larger plan if needed for personal use, but will only receive the stipend amount. Bills for the cellular plan and device are the responsibility of the individual, not Vigo County Community
Corrections.
The employee is personally responsible for complying with any contract entered into with a cellular service provider including payment of all expenses incurred (including long distance, roaming fees, and taxes).
In the event that an employee leaves the position, he/she continues to be
responsible for the contractual obligations of the cellular service plan not
Vigo County Community Corrections.
The employee is responsible for replacement of out of date, stolen or damaged cell phones even if damage occurs during performing his/her job duties. Cell phones must be replaced immediately.
Employee must contact his/her Supervisor immediately if at any time cellular phone service has been discontinued for any amount of time including damage, lost, stolen and etc..
Vigo County Community Corrections stipend contribution toward the cellular plan is not considered an entitlement, stipend is not part
of an employee’s base salary, and may be changed and/or withdrawn by Vigo County Community Corrections at any time.
The stipend will be paid twice a month and will reflect on your pay check stub.
I understand that the Vigo County Community Corrections contribution toward the purchase of a cellular plan is taxable income and is not part of my base salary and that contract provisions of any cellular service plan entered into are my personal responsibility.
I understand that maintaining a cellular plan will be required in the performance of my position at Vigo County Community Corrections and will be responsible for the payment of any cost that exceeds the approved stipend contribution.

Exposure to potentially violent/hostile individuals.
No prolonged extreme physical demands are associated with normal duties or assignments, but incumbent may exert strenuous physical effort during emergency situations, such as physically restraining residents.
Stand, walk, sit, use hands to fingers, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk and hear. Lift and move up to 50 pounds.
