Examples of Duties:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Stay awake and alert during the night shift; maintain a safe and secure environment of residents and staff.
- Check on residents regularly and check all doors and windows.
- Instruct and advise residents as needed. Intervene in disputes.
- Administer medicines as directed.
- Wake students in the morning; transports students to school if needed.
- Maintain resident checklists and a record on incidents.
- Take CPR/first-aid class instruction and view videos on Universal Precautions.
- Inform houseparent of any problems.
- Performs other related essential duties as required.
Typical Qualifications:
Qualifications
Must be 21 years of age and have reliable transportation. Must be able to read and comprehend a variety of reference and informational materials. Must be able to prepare nightly reports and other job related documents according to prescribed format. Must be able to accurately record and deliver information, meet deadlines and maintain confidentiality of restricted information. Must be able to make independent judgments and use common sense. Must be able to learn and understand security and child counseling terminology, language, principles and techniques. Must be able to work under stressful conditions, respond immediately to crisis situations and balance priorities within and between offices and departments. Must be able to maintain personal composure and tactfully handle difficult situations. Must be able to behave in an understanding, helpful and professional manner. Must be able to advise and interpret on the application of policies, procedures and standards to specific situations. Must be bale to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with residents, supervisors, and County personnel and the general public and speak with and before others with poise and voice control. Must be able to add, subtract, multiply, divide, and calculate decimals and percentages and measure data.
Education/ Experience
High school diploma or GED required. Previous relevant work experience preferred or equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for this job.
Certificates/Licenses/Registrations
Valid driver’s license required. Twenty hours per year ongoing training required.

Physical Demands
Eye-hand coordination in using departmental equipment required. Ability to operate motor vehicles required. Ability to exert physical effort in sedentary to light work involving routine stooping, kneeling, crouching and reaching required. Visual perception and discrimination required.
Work Environment
Must be able to work effectively in a residential housing environment. Must be able to physically protect self and others in crisis situations.
Tests and Screenings
Physical and yearly TB screenings required. Drug and alcohol screening required. Criminal background check required. All tests and screenings must be passed and are a condition of employment.
