Brazil Commodities Correspondent (São Paulo) Job (Av Nacoes Unida, Sao Paulo, Brazil)

Title: Brazil Commodities Correspondent (São Paulo)
ID: NEW00002887

Description

Reuters is looking for a talented journalist to help drive our English-language commodities coverage in Brazil, an emerging economic powerhouse blessed with vast natural resources. It is said that the Brazil story is really a commodities story, and the correspondent based in São Paulo will cover primarily the agricultural commodities at the heart of the country's impressive recent growth. The correspondent will track every aspect of the production of soy, corn, and other grains, from regular planting and harvest updates to in-depth examinations of problems at Brazil's overcrowded ports. The position will also involve coverage of beef, poultry and other foodstuffs, as well as coverage of fast-growing companies such as JBS and Cosan that have become truly global players in their industries. The job requires an understanding of other key commodities that Brazil produces, from sugar and ethanol to coffee and cocoa, though these are not the main focus of the beat. The successful applicant will know how to focus commodities coverage in a way that is most useful for traders, and develop strong relationships with newsmakers in the sector, including farmers, shippers, brokers and industry leaders. The correspondent will also be expected to branch out across the news file and will occasionally have to work evenings and weekends.

Skills and Qualifications:

- At least 3 years reporting experience, with a track record of breaking news.

- Strong writing skills and an ability to tell complex stories with flair.

- Ability to understand company balance sheets.

- Ability to develop good sources among the industries and companies on the beat.
