Technical Manager – Plastic Films Industry
The Technical Manager is responsible for process and quality control for all equipment and products produced in a 24/7, 365 day-a-year continuous process operation. This shall be done in a way that reinforces safe work behaviors, a collaborative effort between all functions, and on-going improvement in our efficiencies and performance.
Responsibilities:
Continuous improvement efforts: first pass efficiency; quality claims; process capability; line throughput.
Quality system effectiveness.
Product quality.
Polymer qualifications.
Product development efforts on process lines.
Product transfers.
Customer claims and issues resolution: act as first point of contact; ensure effective response and preventive action; proactively identify issues (via claims analysis, interaction with Sales, etc.)
Process control and performance on tenter lines, slitters and reclaim (capability on critical properties, Plan Limits, procedures, sampling, testing, calibration, control charts, troubleshooting guides, etc.).
Member of plant leadership team responsible for costs, quality and safety performance.
Lead and develop the Process Engineers, Process Technicians, Quality Engineer and Lab Technicians.
Lead and manage the planning process for the Technical group: manage the prioritization and allocation of work for urgent or unexpected technical issues; ensure effective management of projects.
Provide technical leadership for the day-to-day operation of the plant.
Ensure robustness of product design (fit-for-manufacturing).
Provide and maintain decision support tools (downtime applications, control chart applications, etc.).
Build, transfer, and manage a fundamental understanding of our processes.
Build and maintain customer and supplier relationships.
Build and maintain relationships with Business Directors, Sales Directors, Sales Reps, Technical Service Reps, and R&D investigators.
Build and maintain relationships with the Technical groups in other locations.
Requirements:
BS in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Chemistry.
Minimum of 5 years experience in continuous process flexible webs or polymers, in a manufacturing environment.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Must be able to interact with employees at all levels of the organization as well as customers and suppliers.
Excellent leadership skills.
Strong results orientation.
Thorough understanding of safe operation of a continuous process manufacturing operation.
Demonstrated track record of continuous improvement in quality and process control.
Experience leading ISO Quality System or equivalent.
Experienced in data analysis and presentation of results.
