Food & Nutrition Services Aide / FNS / Per Diem / Varied Hrs as Needed - Terre Haute Regional Hospital - Terre Haute, IN





The primary responsibility of the dietary aide is to provide the highest quality of service to the customers and patients at all times while maintaining department standards. This position coordinates all aspects of patients care including; meal service, diet and nourishment order implementation, tray passing/collecting, and acts as a liaison with patients, nursing services and nutritional services. This position may also but is not limited to; handling cash, working with the POS system, setting up food service areas, stocking supplies and maintaining sanitary conditions. This is an overall rotating position and is not committed down to one specific job duty.

Position responsibilities:

  • Proficiently utilizes Medi Tech

  • Utilizes the Kronos time clock for proper clocking in and out procedures

  • Properly uses the Exception Report Sheet as necessary

  • Maintains excellent telephone etiquette when handling calls from patients, hospital staff and others

  • Attends meetings, in-services, and other educational programs

  • Consistently completes the cafeteria checklist and corrects and area that is substandard

  • Ensures all customer services areas are cleaned and well maintained between customers

  • Ensures work area is thoroughly cleaned prior to leaving with the scheduled shift

  • Ensure all required job duties are completed with regards to the position you are working on the current day.

  • Familiarize yourself with the different menu items so you can help patients and their families make the best choices for them.

  • Wear protective gloves at all times when in the soiled dish room area and exercise universal precautions

  • Cleans and stores equipment in proper places

  • Loads and unloads the dish machine

  • Hand washes, rinses, and sanitizes pots and pans, utensils and food preparation equipment

  • Works at a pace that is consistent with the need to stay caught up and on task

  • Uses the proper equipment for the job performed

  • Takes temperatures as required when necessary for the position

  • Replaces chemicals, hand soup, and paper towels as needed

  • Notifies management with any changes that may need addressed

  • Reports equipment failure and or safety hazards to lead workers

  • Consistently takes appropriate action needed to ensure patient satisfaction

  • Maintains excellent communication with nursing services and acts as liaison with patient, nursing services, and nutrition services regarding meal service issues

  • Maintains excellent telephone etiquette when handling calls from patients and hospital staff along with family members of patients

  • Attends meetings, in-services and other education programs as necessary

  • Must know and understand how to work on the patient tray line

  • Assist with any area that may need help

  • Attend Code of Conduct training course annually

  • Demonstrates conduct that is reflective of THRH’s commitment to HCA’s Code of Conduct

  • Understands and satisfies the needs of the patients population appropriate to the age of the patient being served

  • Uses the two patient identifiers when delivering trays to the patients

  • Aware of hospital policies relating to ethical issues involved in patient care

  • Ability to learn and know a variety of tasks

  • Understands how the kitchen works and what tasks need to be completed on an everyday basis

  • Ensures that the job is done before leaving and the proper paper has been signed of completed task

Qualifications


Essential educational/licensure, skills and experience:


  • High School graduate

  • Above average communication skills in all forms

Valued but not required educational/licensure, skills and experience:


  • At least one year experience in food service

  • Associates Degree

  • Food service experience
