Operator I-Process-FDE - Eli Lilly - Clinton, IN


This is a Fixed Duration Employee (FDE) position. Applicants could be hired in any of the following positions in, Manufacturing, Warehousing, and /or Utilities.

Process operator: Will be responsible for performing all tasks and activities that are associated with granulating, blending, bagging animal health products along with operating various types of large-scale processing equipment.

  • Operates various types of large-scale processing equipment

  • Operator is expected to recognize problem situations, troubleshoot, and determine root causes using data.

  • Routine operational responsibilities will include driving a fork truck

  • Assures that production operations are performed according to cGMP and ISO 9000 standards.

  • Follows proper documentation and verification guidelines as they apply to all processing document; e.g., batch production records, SOP’s equipment, and sample submission.

  • Follows all department safety policies and procedures.

  • Suggests and implements departmental safety improvements while incorporating safety into daily activities.

  • Recognizes and communicates process improvements and problems to team members (peers, supervision, and technical support personnel).

  • Participates in departmental quality initiatives: Adheres to GMP’s in equipment and area cleaning as well as performs general housekeeping tasks.

  • Warehouse operator: Will manage the flow of material through the supply chain. This includes, but is not limited to, receiving, sampling, moving and preparing material for shipments. The warehouse operator is also responsible for cycle counting and discrepancy resolution. A keen understanding of supply chain management and MRPH concepts, specifically around inventory management is needed to identify the upstream and downstream impacts related to material movements.

  • Perform tasks physically within warehouses; receiving, sampling, material movements, loading, unloading, etc.

  • Routine operational responsibilities include driving fork truck, spotter truck to move semi trailers and locomotive to move railcars.

  • Maintain a clean work environment (housekeeping).

  • Ensure material bins have adequate inventory to meet production requirements.

  • Cycle counting.

  • Injury/illness/deviation reporting

  • Discrepancy resolution.

  • Performs investigations for deviations.

  • Troubleshoot equipment and procedures as required.

  • Assist in improvement of safe working conditions by identifying hazardous processes or conditions.

  • Assist in improvement of business practices in warehouse and inventory management.

  • Utilities operator: Provide support to manage and operate a wide variety of utilities equipment including coal fired boiler, gas/oil boilers, plant air systems, plant water systems, chillers, vacuum trucks, dumpster trucks and tractor. Must be capable to meet ITP, GMP, and IDEM requirements to the utility services essential to plant operations.

  • Operator assumes responsibility for the efficient operation and monitoring of all utilities equipment as assigned.

  • Will utilize and is capable of understanding control systems to ensure that utilities is both in control and capable while working to reduce variability.

  • Manages and performs operator PMs.

  • Uses technical materials or blueprints to troubleshoot process.

  • Uses information such as PI data, operating logs, event notices, and other sources of data to make improvement suggestions.

  • Follows all safety practices and procedures, issues permits to keep daily activities in compliance.

  • Responsible for Good Documentation Practices and trains other operators in proper use of equipment and operating procedures.

  • Key objectives / Deliverables:

    • Execute written instructions that details operations of the process

    • Collection of data used to monitor and troubleshoot the process

    • Identify abnormal processing conditions and escalate appropriately

    • Know and follow cGMP practices, safe work habits, plant dress code, hygiene standards and housekeeping requirements unique to the work area.

    Basic Qualifications

    • High School Diploma or GED

    • Completion of Post Offer Exam, Completion of Work Simulation or Completion of Administrative Skills Testing if applicable.

    • Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to be employed in the United States. Lilly does not anticipate providing sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H-1B or TN status) for this employment position.

    Additional Skills/Preferences

    • Prior experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment preferred

    • Capable of working in complex regulatory environment (OSHA, EPA, FDA)

    • High level of attention to detail

    • Basic math skills

    • Basic computer skills with ability to learn automated control systems

    • Demonstrate technical and problem solving skills

    • Able to follow written and verbal directions

    • Demonstrates initiative and able to work individually with minimum oversight

    • Capable of working in a team environment

    • Demonstrated learning capability

    • Effective written and verbal communicator

    Additional Information

    • FDE Only-This position is not permanent. It is for a fixed duration of two years with potential to extend annually for up to 4 years.

    • Must be able to work a Day or Night 12 hour rotating schedule

    • A shift premium is applied to individuals working the shift above

    • Overtime, weekends, and holidays required as dictated by the schedule

    • Position requires use of personal protective equipment including safety glasses, steel toed shoes, and hearing protection.

    • Position may require use of respirator (i.e Bullard Hoods, PAPR, Dust Mask)

    • Tasks may require lifting 50 pounds
