DUTY LOCATION : Terre Haute, IN (181 LRF SQ)


JOB SUMMARY : Its purpose is to operate and perform operator maintenance on one or more motor vehicles to transport personnel, supplies, materials or equipment.


This job announcement is for employment as an Indiana Air National Guard Technician; a Federal Civil Service position. This is a dual-status technician job whereby you are required to maintain active membership in a National Guard unit and are required to wear the military uniform at the workplace. As members of a unit of the Indiana National Guard, you will be required to train with your unit, normally one weekend a month and 15 days of annual training each year. Indiana National Guard units and members are subject to immediate call to federal or state active duty to meet national or state emergencies.


APPOINTMENT FACTORS : This position is an Indefinite with permanent potential Excepted Service position.


MILITARY RANK REQUIREMENTS : E-2 thru E-7


MILITARY SPECIALITY REQUIREMENTS : Individuals must meet the qualifications for the technician position but will have 1 year from date of hire to be assigned to a compatible MOS in a compatible unit for the technician position advertised.


Compatible Military Assignments : 2F0XX, 2T3XX, or 2T1X1


AREA(S) OF CONSIDERATION :

As a Motor Vehicle Operator with the Indiana Air National Guard (ANG), your duties will include, but will not be limited to:


Operates primarily straight-in-line trucks which typically have an approximate gross vehicle weight (GVW) of more than 32,000 pounds and/or truck tractors with semitrailers or full trailers to transport personnel or pick up and deliver supplies, materials or equipment. Incumbent couples and uncouples the truck tractor and semitrailer or truck and trailer, and connects and disconnects the air brakes and electrical lines. Incumbent maneuvers vehicles within close tolerances when driving and backing over uneven ground, in narrow or congested areas, between buildings and other vehicles, between parked aircraft and when positioning vehicles at loading docks. Driver operates vehicles on interstate highways, winding roads, and steep grades and manipulates the dual braking system to prevent the semitrailer or trailer from jackknifing. Assures cargo is properly loaded, distributed and secured. Performs operator maintenance on vehicles. Ensures shipping and accounting documents are with the shipment and reflect actual condition, quantities and type of material. Completes log books, maintenance records, reports and other transportation documents for accurate accounting. May identify, inspect, and segregate equipment or material as it is received for obvious damage and needed repairs. May perform warehouse work to include issuing receiving and inventorying equipment, supplies and materials; loading and unloading of trucks; storing and pulling warehouse stock; packing and unpacking material; and repairing or replacing items on equipment. May select storehouse locations within the general warehousing plan. Operates electric, gasoline or diesel-powered forklift trucks. May perform a variety of extensive servicing and light maintenance work on assigned vehicles. May assist in dispatching vehicles or in the issuance of forms, credit cards or military driver’s licences. Performs other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:


In order to meet the Minimum Qualifications for this Motor Vehicle Operator position at the WG-08 grade level, you must have at least 12 months of:


experience or training which demonstrates the ability to follow instructions and safely operate the type of equipment required to accomplish the duties of the position.

experience or training which demonstrates the ability to operate one or more motor vehicles including platform trucks, van trucks, fuel trucks, stake trucks, dump trucks, and trash removal trucks which typically have an approximate gross vehicle weight of more than 11,700 kilograms (26,000 pounds) and up to 14,400 kilograms (less than 32,000 pounds) AND experience operating vehicles and tractors, some of which may be equipped with special-purpose powered equipment AND experience operating platform, van, stake and dump trucks, refueling vehicles passenger buses or ambulance buses. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities that will be evaluated for this position include:

Skill and knowledge to operate vehicles that have limited maneuverability; have more than one body and two braking systems; or are oversized. Skill to operate these vehicles over a variety of roads including interstate highways, narrow country roads, and on steep winding grades. Knowledgeable about turning the vehicles, in evaluating the condition and load limits of bridges, in scheduling weigh points, and in accessing traffic conditions and hazards, locally and over long-distance routes in unfamiliar geographic areas. Knowledge of warehousing plans and accepted warehousing methods, procedures and techniques.

A criminal history check will be completed on all selectees before hire date.


Permanent Change of Station (PCS) funds are not available for this position.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Incumbent is required to work inside and outside and is exposed to all types of weather and traffic conditions. The incumbent is exposed to the possibility of serious injury from traffic accidents or while handling heavy equipment and supplies.


PHYSICAL EFFORT: Performs work on hard surfaces in work areas that require the incumbent to stand, stoop, bend and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts and carries items that weigh up to 70 pounds.
