THIS IS A ONE YEAR GUARNTEED GRANT POSITION AND WILL REMAIN IN EFFECT AS FUNDS CONTINUE.

To improve immunizations coverage rates in Vigo County. The public Health Nurse provides public health nursing services to individuals, families, and population groups. Nursing actions are directed toward the goals of prevention, assessment, risk assessment, risk reduction, and health status improvement for individuals, families, and communities. Nursing activities include, but are not limited to, systematic analysis of health data, health education and advocacy, coalition building, and collaborating with community partners to promote the health of a population.


Examples of Duties:


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Administer immunizations according to the guidelines established by the Indiana State Department of Health and Vigo County Health Department.
2. Utilize the Children and Hoosier Immunization Registry Program used by the Indiana State Department of Health.
3. Develop and conduct educational programs which emphasize the necessity of routine immunizations.
4. Conduct immunization clinics as needed.
5. Assist in patient recall and vaccine inventory as mandated by the Vaccine for Children Program.
6. Investigate and report infectious and communicable diseases according to the guidelines established by the Indiana State Department of Health.
7. Make health and social assessments through home visits when required for high-risk adults and/or children.
8. Attend all meetings, training and seminars required by the Indiana State Department of Health and the Vigo County Health Department.

Typical Qualifications:


Associate’s degree in nursing or higher with 2 years of public health or related nursing experience. Must have a current Indiana State Nursing License, CPR certification, and valid driver’s license. Must be able to read and interpret documents, instructions and procedures


Supplemental Information:


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent to draw and interpret graphs.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must have the ability to operate varies pieces of office equipment, nursing equipment, and the ability to exert physical effort including routine stooping, kneeling, crouching, and reaching; tasks require visual perception and discrimination.


INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATION
Ability to communicate effectively with patients and their families, physicians, immediate supervisor, students, coworkers, and the general public verbally and in writing. Will also need to recognize and respect culturally diverse individuals and populations.


ENVIRONMENTAL ADAPTABILITY
Ability to work effectively in an office, clinic, and school environment; take the necessary precautions to protect self and others in a working environment with the potential for exposure to various illnesses, disease, violence, odors, etc.
