Summary: Maersk Oil Houston is expanding its activities in offshore Brazil and is seeking an Exploration Geologist. The candidate is required for the Brazil Exploration Team for integration and evaluation of basin, play and prospect opportunities, in order to generate & mature exploration concepts and support drilling campaigns. The position requires the ability to work effectively in multi-disciplinary teams with a variety of data types. The job title will be Senior or Lead Geologist depending on the level of experience and will report to the Brazil Exploration Manager. Maersk Oil has been active in Brazil since 2001, attaining interest in 6 exploration blocks and the producing Polvo Field (BM-C-8). This has been accomplished by active participation in bid rounds, farm-ins and acquisitions. A high level of focus on Brazil will be maintained going forward, particularly as Maersk Oil enters into the appraisal stage of pre-salt assets in BM-C-30 (Wahoo) and BM-C-32 (Itaipu). Position specifications Required Education: Technical Degree at MSc. level or higher is preferred Technical Degree on BSc. level as a minimum Minimum of 8 years relevant experience Required Experience: Candidate must have a strong background in geological evaluation of a variety of depositional systems in the presence of mobile salt with a demonstrated ability to work with a variety of subsurface data including well logs, geochemical and core data as well as modern 2D and 3D seismic data. Experience in rift and deepwater passive margin basins (e.g. Atlantic margin) is preferred, but not a prerequisite. Candidate must be experienced in play and prospect level evaluation with an ability to readily recognize and quantify exploration opportunities of high potential value. Candidate must be able to clearly convey concepts and objectives in both verbal presentations and in written technical reports. The individual needs to be enthusiastic, passionate and a strong team player with good communication skills and ability to collaborate with others both within and outside their team.
