About the Position:
The Louisville District (LRL) of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is hiring a recent graduate to fill a position at Cecil M. Harden Lake. Individuals who graduated within the past 2 years (or 6

years for veterans whose time since graduation was interrupted by active military service) are eligible to apply. Applicants must meet all other requirements of the Recent Graduate Program prior to appointment.

Position(s) will be filled under the Department of the Army Recent Graduates Program.


The Department of the Army Recent Graduates Program affords developmental experiences in the Department of Army intended to promote possible careers in the civil service to individuals who have recently graduated from qualifying educational institutions or programs. Successful applicants are placed in a dynamic, developmental program with the potential to lead to a civil service career in the Federal Government.


After Program completion, Department of the Army Recent Graduates MAY be converted to a permanent position.


To be eligible for conversion to a permanent or term position, Recent Graduates must:


Successfully completed at least 1-year of continuous service in addition to all requirements of the Program.


Demonstrate successful job performance.


Meet the Office of Personnel Management’s qualifications for the position to which the Recent Graduate will be converted.

Management may select from any grade level announced. Target grade of this position is GS-09.

Positions are open to:
Recent graduates who have completed, within the previous two years, a qualifying associates, bachelors, masters, professional, doctorate, vocational or technical degree or certificate from a qualifying educational

institution.


Veterans unable to apply within two years of receiving their degree, due to military service obligation, have as much as six years after degree completion to apply.


Duties


As a developmental Natural Resources Specialist (Ranger), you will assist in performing duties such as:

Develop and administer a variety of recreational programs;

Participate in projects to educate the public on conservation and preservation;

Inspect project facilities to include playgrounds, sanitary facilities, trails, campground and picnic areas and boat ramps;

Promote biodiversity and native species re-establishment;

Develop resource management programs designed to protect land and water resources;

Develop and present interpretive programs to include slide shows, public speeches and demonstrations;

Educate public on project purposes, conditions, policies and regulations;

Patrol project lands and waters;

Enforce public safety programs;

Perform search and rescue; and

Serve in a public relation capacity by interacting with the general public, special groups, adjacent property owners, civic groups, conservation associations and school groups.

Qualifications


To qualify at the GS-05 level, applicants must possess one of the following:

A. At least a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position; OR

B. A combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Note that the quality of the combination of education and experience must be sufficient to demonstrate that the applicant possesses the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform work in the occupation, and is comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of a full 4-year course of study with a major in the appropriate field.

In addition to the basic education requirements, to qualify at the GS-07 level applicants must possess one of the following:

A. At least 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as experience which includes providing visitor assistance and ensuring compliance with rules and regulations of a Natural Resources Management program; OR

B. At least a bachelor’s degree directly related to this position AND Superior Academic Achievement. Superior academic achievement is defined as any of the following: (1) standing in the upper third of the graduating class in the college, university, or major subdivision; (2) a grade point average of 3.0 out of a 4.0 overall or during the final 2 years of the curriculum; (3) a grade point average of 3.5 out of 4.0 in the major field overall or during the final 2 years of the curriculum; or (4) election to membership in a national scholastic honor society; OR have one year of graduate-level education directly related to this position; OR

C. A combination of education and experience that meets 100% of the qualifying requirements (i.e. meeting 50% of the specialized experience requirement and meeting 50% of the education requirement beyond what is required for the next lower grade level would total 100% after adding the percentages).

In addition to the basic education requirements, to qualify at the GS-09 level applicants must possess one of the following:

A. At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as experience which includes providing visitor assistance, ensuring compliance with rules and regulations related to a Natural Resources Management program, and assisting in the execution of programs related to Park and Recreation services; OR

B. 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master’s

degree or master’s or equivalent graduate degree in a field directly related to

this position; OR

C. A combination of education and experience that meets 100% of the qualifying requirements (i.e. meeting 50% of the specialized experience requirement and meeting 50% of the education requirement beyond what is required for the next lower grade level would total 100% after adding the percentages).
