Nuc Med Tech - Union Hospital - Terre Haute, IN

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

·

Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.

·

Administers isotope dosage accurately following established departmental procedures; accurately records dosage administered.

Observes patient during procedure and reports any unusual occurrences to appropriate personnel.

·

Administers isotope under the direction of a qualified physician using proper phlebotomy technique.

·

Performs Nuclear Medicine studies; obtains patient history and reviews patient condition.

·

Checks equipment, supplies, and accessories on a regular basis.

·

Maintains equipment in efficient operating order; contacts outside service for malfunctions.

·

Maintains orderliness and cleanliness of work areas, including provision for the contamination-free condition of rooms, equipment and personnel.
    • Wears radiation exposure badges appropriately.

·

Transports patients to and from department.

·

Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops.

    • The technologist is expected to maintain continuing education required for certifications and is expected to learn new procedures as the need arises.

·

Attends meetings as required (in-services, safety days, department).

·

Works unsupervised in Nuclear Cardiology and is able to do all tasks involved with patients and daily record keeping, including NRC, ISDOH and ICANL records.

·

Responsible for image acquisition, the performance of procedures and other related duties as assigned or requested.

·

Is CPR certified.

TRAINING, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES NEEDED:


1.

High school or equivalent.

Graduate of School of Radiologic Technology.


2.

Licensed by ISDOH.


3.

American Registry of Radiologic Technologist certified.


4.

Preferred:

Graduate of Nuclear Medicine Technology or Radiology, Certified by ARRT (N), and/or N.M.T.C.B., one to two years experience.


5.

Maintain current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:


Proper body mechanics for patient care activities:


A.

Ability to assist with the transportation, transfer, and ambulation of patients.

This includes transportation of patients weighing up to 350 pounds, via wheelchair (equivalent to 50 pounds pushing pressure).


B.

Lifting without assistance up to 40 pounds.


C.

Able to stand or walk without interruption for extended periods of time.


D.

Reaching (extending arms and/or trunk of body above or in front of body) for patient care or retrieval of supplies.


E.

Bending and pivoting required for patient care and department activities.


F.

Repositioning patients in bed; pulling is required.


Ability to respond to person in patient emergencies

:


A.

Able to evacuate patients by stairs in the event of an emergency.


B.

Able to independently evacuate patients from one area to another.


Communication requirements

:


A.

Hearing adequate or corrected to be able to respond to patient’s verbal stimuli, take blood pressure measurements, and hear equipment alarms.


B.

Vision adequate or corrected to accommodate short distance viewing (the computer screen and reading handwritten and typewritten medical records) and long distance viewing (department and patient activities).


C.

Writing ability necessary to include medical record documentation and other necessary communication.


D.

Able to communicate in English language, both verbally and written.


Other

:


A.

Able to function in Category I, OSHA Standard for Bloodborne Pathogens.


B.

Able to work in areas where hazardous materials are located; e.g., radioactive materials, chemotherapy drugs, cleaning fluids.


C.

Flexible to meet the scheduling demands of the department.


D.

Able to work under stress relation to multiple patient care demands occurring simultaneously.


OSHA Classification I.


TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT:


1.

Answers telephones, coordinates events, maintains filing systems, maintains logs, maintains patient charts, and schedules appointments


2.

Ability to use diagnostic equipment, fax machine, photocopier, and typewriter


3.

Required protective equipment:

eye protection, face protection, mask, non-sterile medical gloves, lead aprons and gloves, and film badges
