ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
·


Under the general supervision of the manager, follows all established Laboratory and Clinic policies and procedures.


·


Responsible for driving a delivery vehicle to pick up and deliver a variety of items to various locations.


·


Items handled include: clinical specimens; laboratory regents; mail; imaging films; and pharmaceuticals.


·


Responsible for loading and unloading deliveries using totes, coolers, hand trucks and other mechanical delivery assistance devices.


·


Making pickups and deliveries in a timely manner and by following a predetermined schedule, completing required paperwork and while providing excellent customer service during the process.


·


Perform STAT pick-up and deliveries as necessary and directed with minimum impact to routine pick-ups and delivery schedule.


·


Must follow established procedures in preparation and transport of specimens.


·


Follow all established policy and procedures required for handling and transporting of medical or hazardous materials and applicable safety (OSHA) and security requirements.


·


Maintain appropriate documentation of records as required by laboratory and clinic policy.


·


Will assist maintenance staff as needed.

TRAINING, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES NEEDED:
1.


Must have a valid driver’s license and be at least 21 years of age.


2.


Must have a clean driving record.


3.


Accuracy and attention to detail.


4.


Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic or schedule form.


5.


Write clearly and informatively.


6.


Able to communicate effectively in English.


7.


Ability to interact with physicians, nurses, other staff members, patients and visitors in a positive and effective manner.


Possess skills to facilitate smooth inter and intra department relationships.


8.


Answers telephone promptly and uses appropriate telephone etiquette.


9.


Maintains patient confidentiality at all times and in accordance with established clinic policy.


10.


Appearance – follows established dress code policy, wears identification badge in a visible location at all times while at work.

Basic computer, keyboard and office skills.


12.


Able to work well under stress or emergency situations.


13.


Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner; exercises judgment and seeks guidance from Environmental Services Manager when needed.


14.


Participates in continuing education activities and in-service training when provided and staff scheduling permits.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Courier drivers must also be capable of lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds in the course of their deliveries.


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or listen. The employee frequently is required to use hands and fingers, handle or feel over 2/3 of the time at work.


Standing and walking, reaching with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl up to 2/3 of the time.


Also includes sitting up to 2/3 of the time, climbing or balancing under 1/3 of the time.


Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less).


Distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more), color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors), peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up and down or to the left and right while eyes are fixed on a given point), depth perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships) and ability to adjust focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus).
