Volunteer Coordinator - Hospice - Intrepid USA - Terre Haute, IN

Purpose:
Provides volunteer support to the Hospice program under the supervisor of the Volunteer/Bereavement Coordinator. A volunteer may function in one or more of the following roles: office volunteer, direct patient care volunteer and/or a bereavement volunteer.

Essential Functions :
Attends or leads bereavement support groups as requested.

Available to volunteer for counseling when appropriate.

Documents assessments of patient/family spiritual needs, reflects, observations and plans in accordance with the interdisciplinary plan of care and documents contracts and records appropriate notes in the patient’s medical record in a timely manners.

Provides emotional support to patients/families.

Provides companionship to patients.

Provides relief to family caregivers.

Attends IDG conference, as appropriate.


Requirements :
High School diploma preferred. Prior general office experience preferred, prior experience providing supportive care preferred but not required.


Special Skills :
Pleasant phone manner and voice. Good listening skills, willing to accept a variety of office tasks. Emotionally mature and dependable. Understands and supports the hospice philosophy, completes the hospice orientation program. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong interpersonal skills.

Demonstrates being dependable, cooperative, honest, empathetic, and nonjudgmental, and active listener and willing to work under supervision. Has not had a significant loss within the past year and is able to comfortably discuss prior losses, especially deaths of loved ones. Comfortable interacting with individuals who are terminally ill or emotionally distraught.
