Prindle Institute for Ethics Graduate Fellow - DePauw University - Greencastle, IN

POSITION SUMMARY

The Janet Prindle Institute for Ethics (JPIE) fosters interdisciplinary reflection on moral issues, including questions of justice and public policy, character, duty, and responsibility. In order to enrich and extend student involvement at the Institute, a Graduate Fellow position has been established. The Graduate Fellow will be integrally involved in the operations of the Institute. The Graduate Fellow will report to the Director and Assistant Director of the JPIE.

The expected commitment of the Prindle Graduate Fellow is to work approximately 35-40 hours per week during the summer and academic year to accomplish a variety of duties listed below. As the Graduate Fellow position develops, these duties may be adjusted, so flexibility is an important requirement of this job.


Coursework: The Graduate Fellow is eligible to audit or take for credit one course per semester. Courses may be taken both inside and outside the undergraduate major. The Graduate Fellow will be entitled as a special status student, for registration purposes, and will be given senior priority. Courses taken during the fellowship will be listed on the DePauw transcript.

Essential Functions Statement(s)

The Graduate Fellow usually takes a lead role in assisting the Director on a core initiative. Typically this is tailored to the strengths and career goals of the Graduate Fellow. The Graduate Fellow will consult with the director at the start of her/his term of employment to discuss the possibility of this kind of focus.

Assist at events hosted/sponsored by the Prindle Institute.

Serve as a non-voting member of the Faculty Advisory Committee.

Host guests to the Prindle Institute and serve as an ambassador.

Assist the JPIE Director and Assistant Director with administrative tasks.

Help organize major symposia that are organized by DePauw faculty.

Update the Graduate Fellow Job Book as the details of the job and responsibilities change.

Review submissions for the various prizes that the JPIE sponsors, such as Prindle Prize Program, High School Essay Contest, Young Philosophers Lecture Series and the Undergraduate Ethics Symposium.

Write for the Prindle Post .

Supervise the undergraduate interns.

Help organize the annual Undergraduate Ethics Symposium that includes publicizing, sending the call for papers, organizing the submitted papers for the faculty readers, arranging travel and lodging for participants, etc.

Assist with High School Ethics Bowl.

Actively recruit the participation of campus organizations in Prindle events.

Update the Prindle website as needed.

Promote/market Prindle sponsored events.

Assist with Prindle reading groups by purchasing books for the participants and refreshments for the group sessions.

Conduct separate research on a topic(s) of personal interest with the goal of creating an event or series of events or program on the researched topic.

Serve as the social media and multi-media liaison, ensuring events are filmed or photographed for use on the Prindle website and serving as point person for videos as the Director and Assistant Director decide.

Assist with publishing a Prindle newsletter.

Actively work to engage DePauw alumni in the work of the Institute.

Assist with grant writing.

Other duties as assigned.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

Education: Bachelor’s Degree from DePauw University required.

Experience: No prior experience necessary

Computer Skills: Knowledge of the following is desirable: WordPress and Big Tree web-design software, Photoshop/Adobe products, digital video creation, Facebook, Twitter, Microsoft Office software.

Other Requirements: Must be a recent graduate of DePauw University.
