Incumbent serves as part-time general maintenance for the Wabashiki Fish and Wildlife Area.
Examples of Duties:
- Cleaning – rest rooms, shelters, and/or other facilities used by visitors.
- Trash pickup and removal – pickup and remove trash/garbage.
- Operates various equipment/machinery and hand and/or power tools.
- Maintains assigned grounds.
- Responsible for using park vehicles and materials responsibly.
- Public Relations –Be courteous at all times with the public and offer assistance when appropriate.
- Safety – Report immediately any conditions that might affect safety of public.
- Report any unusual or suspicious behavior.
- Assist in warning visitors of severe weather conditions approaching.
- Safety rules and procedures – must observe safety rules and procedures as well as remind visitors of them when necessary.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
Typical Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license and a demonstrated safe driving record to operate county vehicles.
- Ability to properly operate various equipment/machinery and hand and/or power tools.
- Ability to meet all employer and department hiring requirements, including passage of a drug test.
- Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with co-workers, other County departments, and the public, including being sensitive to professional ethics, gender, cultural diversities and disabilities.
- Ability to confront individuals not in compliance with park rules.
- Ability to work in or outdoors in all kinds of weather.
- Willingness to learn procedures and work when needed.
- Ability to work alone with minimum supervision and with others in a team environment.
- Working knowledge of and ability to make practical application of Department policies and procedures and applicable OSHA safety policies and procedures.
- Ability to comply with all employer and department policies and work rules, including, but not limited to, attendance, safety, drug-free workplace, and personal conduct.
- Ability to work 20 hours per week including weekend hours.
Supplemental Information:
Incumbent reports directly to Park Assistant Superintendent.
Incumbent’s duties often involve continuous physical exertion, such as sitting/walking at will, standing/walking for long periods, lifting/carrying objects, pushing/pulling objects, crouching/kneeling, bending, reaching, driving, close and far vision, color and depth perception, hearing mechanical sounds and handling/grasping objects.
Incumbent performs a majority of duties outdoors and is frequently exposed to normal hazards associated with park maintenance, including machinery/equipment, excessive noise, toxic chemicals, dust, fumes, slippery surfaces, working in high places, extreme temperatures and wet/icy conditions.
