PCT Float job - Terre Haute Regional Hospital - Terre Haute, IN





Position responsibilities:

· Assists with admission of patient including orientation to the environment

· Cares for patient’s belongings according to hospital procedure, i.e. artificial appliances and prosthesis, glasses, hearing aides and dentures, and valuables

· Provides individualized care responsive to needs of patients, families and physicians

· Takes and reports vital signs under proper supervision

· Assists with discharge of patient; helps patient recover all personal belongings, accompanies patient to automobile

· Bathing; routine bed baths, showers, therapeutic baths, Sitz baths, pre-operative bath, shampoo and facial shave

· Sponges patient for temperature control as needed

· Gives am care and pm care

· Makes beds; occupied, open, closed, and surgical

· Feeding; prepare patient for meals, passes and picks up trays, assists patients as necessary, passes nourishment’s and ice water

· Assists with patient hygiene; oral hygiene, perineal care, skin care, decubitus care, shampoo and nail care

· Assists with preparation of patient for surgery, diagnostic tests, therapy

· Assists with exercise prescribed for patient; dangle, range of motion, turning, transfer from bed to chair or stretcher, ambulate, crutch walking, walkers. Knows correct body mechanics for both the patient and self

· Collects specimens for Laboratory; urine, feces, sputum

· Performs and reports Accu-chek as ordered

· Gives and removes bedpans and urinals, records I/O

· Provides for patient’s comfort and safety. Displays knowledge of fall protocol, electrical safety, footboards, fracture boards, bed alarm

· Gives treatments after instruction by and under the supervision of professional nurses; i.e., enemas, ace bandages, ice caps, and bags, aquamatic pool, TED hose, hot and cold non-sterile compresses, rectal tubes, external catheters, binders. Assists with colostomy care and Foley care

· Cares for patient receiving respiratory therapy; and O2 by cannula or mask

· Assist patient with incentive spirometry after initial teaching has been completed

· Cares for patient requiring isolation according to hospital procedure

· Observes and reports, untoward symptoms such as cyanosis, dyspnea, rash, character of feces, urine and vomit, accidents, complaints, and requests

· Contributes relevant and appropriate information to RN for daily revision of plan of care, periodic planning and discharge conferences. Reinforces compliance with RN teaching and plan of care

· Participates in report process to plan patient care for oncoming shift

· Maintains patients’ privacy; uses bedside curtains, drapes patient, keeps confidential details of patient’s hospitalization

· Receives and sends messages; answers patients’ call lights promptly, answers telephone giving name unit and position, relays message to professional nurse

· Maintains cleanliness and order on nursing unit; cares for all equipment on unit, linen, clean supply room, kitchen and utility rooms

· Maintains supply levels and stock using POU at all times

· Maintains conditions of occupied patient rooms, including wiping of spills, picking up clutter, emptying trash receptacles

· Cleans rolling stock such as wheelchairs, gurneys, IV poles. Places dirty equipment in soiled utility room for CSS to properly clean

· Strips beds and clears patient care rooms at time of discharge; prepares for new admissions

· Charts accurately and completely observations and procedures rendered to patients

· Assists nursing staff with the care of body after death

· Attends unit conferences, in-service education classes and department meetings

· Assists with orientation of new Patient Care Technicians

· Performs efficiently with CPCS/Healthstream/E-Resources. Maintains ongoing training and proficiency with CPCS

· Floats to other units as needed

· Performs other duties as assigned to meet the needs of the department

· Attend Code of Conduct training course annually

· Demonstrate an understanding of and adherence to HCA’s Code of Conduct

· Demonstrates conduct that is reflective of THRH’s commitment to HCA’s Code of Conduct

· Understands and satisfies the needs of the patient population appropriate to the age of the patient served (adults, geriatric, adolescent, pediatric, and parents of neonates)

  • Adheres to the Standards of Behavior for Terre Haute Regional Hospital as per the Customer Relations Policy


Qualifications

Essential educational/licensure, skills and experience:

·
High school graduation or equivalent preferred

· Knows accepted medical terms and abbreviations

· Performs clinical skills after appropriate training, competency assessment

· Certification: BLS must be maintained throughout employment with Terre Haute Regional Hospital.

  • Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (CPI) training completion within 1 year of hire and maintenance of certification


Valued but not required educational/licensure, skills and experience:

Previous training and/or experience as nurse aide desired
