Big Brothers Big Sisters Site Coordinator/Out of School Club Aid - Chances And Services for Youth - Terre Haute, IN


JOB DESCRIPTION:


Provide a high quality, child-friendly program for both Big Brothers Big Sisters Site Based Mentoring Program and Out of School Club.


Big Brothers Big Sisters Site Based Mentoring Program: preparing for all aspects of program and
assisting with child and volunteer recruitment and trainings, enrollment, match support, program
activities, snack preparation, Bowl for Kids Sake and other fundraising efforts.


Out of School Club Afterschool Program: Leading/assisting Tuesday’s and Friday’s throughout
the academic year, helping youth with homework, facilitating activities designed for experimental
learning, aiding in prepping and arranging meals and snack, and ensuring that the youth depart
with authorized parents and guardians at the end of program. In summer months assist with
counselor responsibilities, food preparation, and inventory tracking.


JOB QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum qualifications for the position include:
 Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university preferred.
 Strong communication, organization and networking skills.
 Ability to work collaboratively but also independently.
 Computer proficiency: word, excel, software, etc.
 Must be available to work some weeknight and weekend hours.
 Experience with school age children preferred.


RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
 Assist Big Brothers Big Sisters with planning, preparing and implementing activities for site-
based mentoring programs including homework assistance and relationship building activities.
Must be available Wednesday and Thursday afternoons from noon-5pm
 Coordinate Big Brothers Big Sisters interns and volunteers for sites, assign tasks and oversee on-
site.
 Work with coordinating teachers/sponsors on all aspects of BBBS Site-Based program.
 Track attendance and maintain files on Bigs and Littles.
 Assist with planning, preparing and implementing Bowl for Kids Sake.
 Observe and assist with family and volunteer interviews for Big Brothers Big Sisters.
 Assist with planning, preparing and implementing regular activities for the matches and/or
waiting list families including activities designed to strengthen relationships.
 Assist with planning, designing and distributing recruiting tools for volunteers and families.
 Assist with volunteer and family training targeted to specific areas of need identified through
match support including relationship strengthening, academic performance, accessing community
services and personal confidence.
 Answer phones and assist with referrals of family needs.
 Lead the Out of School Club on Tuesday’s and Friday’s throughout the academic year and assist
when needed (i.e. Winter Break and Spring Break).
 Assist with Out of School Club responsibilities: snack preparations, structured games, homework
help, crafts, games, clubs, dinner, and transitions.
 Assist with Camp RAVE throughout the summer months aiding as additional counselor.
 Assist with kitchen management including helping with meal preparations/cleaning, taking
inventory of foods, and making list for the coordinator.
 Ongoing professional development.


NECESSARY SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
 Ability to initiate and follow through on tasks as well as prioritize tasks associated with Site-
Based Mentoring.
 Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work with diverse populations and geographic areas.
 Ability to work collaboratively, take initiative and follow through on projects.
 Transportation, valid driver’s license and meet state required minimum automobile insurance
minimums.
 Excellent oral and written communication skills as well as computer skills.
 Flexibility and multitasking.
 Be committed to the development of young people attending Out of School Club/Camp Rave
Summer program
 Involve campers in all scheduled activities while at camp, and assure campers are on time for
programs
 Strong time management skills
