Dispatch E-911 Dispatcher - Vigo County, IN - Terre Haute, IN

Incumbent serves as Dispatcher for Vigo County E-911 Central Dispatch, responsible for monitoring incoming emergency and non-emergency calls and dispatching information to appropriate response units. Effective July 2007, the State has mandated that all public safety answering points (PSAPs) answering 911 telephone lines must be certified to provide EMD by rendering life-sustaining CPR and other pre-arrival medical instructions to callers. The Center receives all emergency calls for police, fire, and ambulance county-wide. These requests for ambulances are now required to be interrogated to ascertain if pre-arrival instructions are required. The standard of certification level is required by law.

Examples of Duties:
Receives all emergency-related calls, gathers maximum amount of information in minimum amount of time, determines appropriate response and dispatches Police, Fire, EMS, and/or other local emergency personnel accordingly.


Receives all incoming non-emergency/information-related calls, determines nature of call, responds to inquiries, routes caller to appropriate individual/department, takes message and/or forwards calls to voice mail. Enters all emergency and non-emergency dispatch data and shift activities in designated software program as required.


Receives and transmits computer teletypes pertaining to, but not limited to, criminal histories, drivers’ license s, vehicle registrations, protective orders, gun permits, runaways, wanted and missing persons, and stolen property and vehicles.


Verifies, enters and maintains accurate IDACS/NCIC information for the Department and other law enforcement agencies, researching and retrieving information as requested.


Provides medical instructions as needed prior to arrival of emergency personnel, and utilizes mapping to provide directions.


Dispatches appropriate police, fire, rescue, and emergency medical response agencies to emergency incidents. Manages radio communications and operates Computer Aided Dispatch system, including maintaining current status of all police units, emergency response agencies, and command personnel.


Inspects, cleans, and maintains Communication Center and equipment.


Participates in training drills and attends classes in emergency communications techniques and other training as required. attends mandatory meetings.


Monitors severe weather and activates emergency notification system (ENS) when required.


Perform related duties as assigned.


Typical Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED.


Completion of Communications Officer training program.


Possession of or ability to obtain and maintain possession of all required certifications, including, but not limited to, First Responder/CPR, Emergency Medical Dispatch certifications, and IDACS/NCIC.


Ability to meet all Department hiring requirements, including passage of a drug test.


Working knowledge of and ability to make practical application of standard practices, procedures, rules and regulations of the Department and ability to take authoritative action as situations demand.


Complete knowledge of local geography and ability to read maps, use emergency code terminology, and quickly, clearly and calmly respond during stressful situations.


Working knowledge of standard English grammar, spelling and punctuation, and ability to condense large amounts of information into coherent typed remarks.


Working knowledge of radio frequencies, codes, procedures and limitations and ability to speak clearly and distinctly, hear and be heard and understood when communicating in person, by radio, or by telephone.


Practical knowledge of area law enforcement, EMS and fire demands, and ability to effectively perform essential duties of the position without posing a direct threat to the health and safety of self and other individuals in the workplace.


Working knowledge of current training programs and ability to conduct training for new personnel.


Ability to type with speed and accuracy and properly operate a variety of standard office equipment, including various computers, printer, E-911 system, two-way radio, computerized telephone system, weather radio, paging system, fax machine, shredder and copier.


Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with co-workers, other County departments, Police, Fire, emergency services, public safety agencies, utilities, Department of Family and Children, wrecker services, and members of the public, including being sensitive to professional ethics, gender, cultural diversities and disabilities.

Incumbent is frequently exposed to stressful situations associated with emergency requests for assistance and typically performs duties in a restricted seated position with little or no opportunity for breaks during shift. Incumbent occasionally works extended hours and travels out of town, sometimes overnight.

Additionally, will be involved in characterization and diversity of prophages in Liberibacter population.
This scientist is expected to have experience in molecular biology (cloning, sequence analysis, gene expression) and microbiology, as well as knowledge of basic bioinformatics tools. Experience in plant transformation and analysis of molecular marques for diversity studies are welcomed.

Assistant Property Manager - Deer Creek Fish & Wildlife Area - Indiana Departmen of Natural Resources - Greencastle, IN






The Indiana Department of Natural Resources is currently seeking an Assistant Property Manager for Deer Creek Fish and Wildlife Area. This is a managerial, supervisory, and administrative position that directs and leads the management and operation of Deer Creek Fish and Wildlife Area and its associated satellite properties for the Wildlife Section of the Division of Fish and Wildlife of the Department of Natural Resources. Duties include working with other managers within the Wildlife Section, other sections within the division of fish and wildlife, other divisions within the Department of Natural Resources, other governmental agencies, local, state, and federal, and private vendors to manage and operate the fish and wildlife property in order to provide recreational opportunities and access to the property for hunters, fishermen, trappers, shooters, and wildlife viewers. This access must be provided for the convenience of the public, regardless of their physical ability, but without endangering the natural resources of the area.


Responsibilities :


  • Plan, coordinate, implement, and direct the wildlife management practices and procedures.

  • Plan, coordinate, implement, and direct public use activities on the property.

  • Oversee the daily operation and activities of the property laborers and support staff.

  • Oversee required periodic preventative maintenance and repairs to all fish and wildlife property buildings, facilities, equipment, tools, and vehicles.

  • Carry out administrative duties that are necessary for the operation, management, and maintenance of the fish and wildlife property, its facilities, buildings, fixed assets, equipment, vehicles, and tools, and the same for satellite properties.

  • Hire, supervise, train, resolve personnel disputes, evaluate, and discipline maintenance repairpersons, equipment operators, laborers, clerks, and intermittent laborers and clerks that work on the fish and wildlife property.

  • Prepare operational management work plans and budgets for the fish and wildlife property to help achieve the objectives set forth in the Division of Fish and Wildlife strategic plans for public lands.

  • Evaluate management work plans to determine if objectives were met and if projects remained within budget.

  • Resolve problems or complaints from the general public or landowners that own land or live adjacent to the assigned property.

  • Work with other federal, state, and local government agencies when necessary to accomplish division objectives.

  • Prepare reports, evaluations, and answer letters as necessary for division or department executives, the governor’s office, or legislators.

Preferred Experience:


  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in wildlife or fisheries management, or a related field and knowledge and experience in wildlife management practices and procedures, administrative procedures, and personnel management procedures.

  • Knowledge of established wildlife management practices and procedures and the ability to discuss these with other property manager biologists, private lands biologist, and research biologists in order to plan for and accomplish division objectives.

  • Knowledge in the use and behavior of prescribed fire for wildlife habitat manipulation. Ability to train others in its use.

  • Knowledge of equipment and materials necessary to manage and maintain a fish and wildlife property.

  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of state, department, and division administrative policies and procedures pertinent to the management of the assigned fish and wildlife property.

  • Knowledge and understanding of equipment and vehicle operation and maintenance procedures, and thorough ability to troubleshoot problems.

  • Thorough and extensive knowledge of federal, state, and local rules, regulations, and laws that would affect the operation and management of the assigned fish and wildlife property.

  • Thorough and extensive working knowledge and the ability to operate survey equipment (i.e. transit, level, etc.) and GPS equipment.

  • Thorough and extensive working knowledge of pesticide application, use, and safety, and the ability to secure certification of the Core knowledge and the necessary categories for the property (i.e. agriculture, aquatics, etc.)

  • Thorough and extensive working knowledge and the ability to operate office equipment, including but not limited to computers (including Internet, E-mail, etc.), fax machines, scanners, copiers, etc.

  • Ability to be creative at solving problems and developing alternatives in response to unforeseen obstacles that come up during the course of carrying out normal duties.

  • Ability to coordinate and motivate diverse equipment operator, maintenance repairperson, laborer, and clerical personnel in order to meet division goals and objectives.

  • Extensive ability to communicate with fellow professionals, division and department executives, subordinates, the general public, and the news media concerning Division programs and projects.
